Dear Owens Valley Community,

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Owens Valley Unified School District.  The tasks and responsibilities that come with every new school year can sometimes seem overwhelming.  We are, as a school, entrusted with forming the educational foundation of your children though creating an effective and well-rounded education. Owens Valley staff know that educating children is a tremendous responsibility placed on us and we as a team are up to the challenge!

An inspiration throughout my teaching career has been Guy Doud, the 1986 National Teacher of the Year.  He wrote an inspirational book for teachers entitled Molder of Dreams.  According to Doud, we help our students mold their dreams for the future. We shape the future of our society by helping students choose the path they will walk.  Boy that is a tremendous responsibility!  I am reminded of that old Jewish proverb that says, “Train up a child in the way they should go and they will not stray from it.”

Owens Valley School has a staff that is full of truly talented and courageous individuals.  I believe our staff is capable of meeting the challenges of educating your children.  Guy writes in his book, “You may think you live in a rather unimportant place or have an insignificant job, but what could be more important than helping to shape and mold others’ lives?”  And that is exactly what Owens Valley staff is committed to.

So, thanks for entrusting your children to us.  We as a school community want to be a positive encouraging part of being the “molder of dreams” for your children.
