Meet the Teachers
Gerrie Rodenburg – Transitional Kinder, Kindergarten, 1st Grade
Hi! My name is Gerrie Rodenburg. I have been teaching for 16 years – in Bakersfield, Independence, Lone Pine, Olancha, and Bridgeport. My family and I moved to Independence in 1991 – my children all attended Owens Valley School. I’m so excited to be teaching here at OV!
Lukas Tandy – 2nd/3rd Grade
My name is Lukas Tandy McGlasson and I am the new 5th and 6th grade teacher. I graduated from Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, California and pursued the world of Business and Teaching. Ever since I was in Middle School, I have always wanted to be a teacher. I taught High School Math the past two years in Orange County, as well as ran the Boys and Girls Varsity Tennis Program. This is my first year teaching elementary and have learned a lot so far!
Gemma Arana – 4th/5th Grade
Gemma is a new resident to Independence, CA. She comes to us with over 20 years of teaching experience. She has been trained in direct instruction, teaching strategies for English Learners, GATE, as well as rigorous curriculum design. Her undergraduate studies, as well as graduate work were done at St. Mary’s College in the East Bay near Berkeley. She enjoys reading, crochets for fun, and has recently enjoyed hiking in Onion Valley, which is right in our backyard. Her goals for her classroom are to effectively deliver the curriculum for both 3rd and 4th in her self-contained classroom, integrate the arts, as well as help all of her students enjoy their entire day while at school.
